Learn to play at OC Polo
Learn to ride, hit, and think like a polo player. Our lessons build confident equestrians ready to scrimmage, compete, and fall in love with the game.
NO PREVIOUS RIDING EXPERIENCE NEEDED.
Preparing for Your First Lesson at OC Polo
Dress comfortably in jeans or riding pants that allow plenty of movement.
If you already ride another discipline, your usual riding attire is perfectly fine.
T-shirt or polo shirt (no spaghetti straps, please).
Check the weather; it can get cool in the canyon after sunset and heat up during summer.
While we do not recommend riding with your phone, we encourage taking plenty of pony selfies afterward.
FOOTWEAR MATTERS:
Wear boots or shoes with a slight heel to prevent your foot from slipping through the stirrup.
Hiking boots are acceptable.
Avoid sneakers or flat-soled shoes; they’re not safe for riding.
What to Expect
Start on foot with short mallets to learn the basic swings and rules.
Move to the saddle and get introduced to riding a trained polo pony.
Practice hitting the ball on horseback, even in your first lesson.
Optional scrimmage at the end, based on your comfort and skill level, for a fun intro to gameplay.
Junior polo lessons and interscholastic programs are available for kids ages 10 and up.
