THE SILVERADO CUP

The finals of the Third Annual Silverado Cup will be played at the OC Polo Club in Silverado Canyon, CA on May 19, 2024. It is a United States Polo Association (USPA) sanctioned arena polo tournament played with both amateur and professional polo players in a Calcutta format. The format has its roots in a tournament originally hosted by OC Polo Club in 2006, when we were located at the El Toro Marine Base. We affectionately named it the Shady Lady Invitational and Jockey Lovers Cup, referencing our clubhouse “bar” - at the time located in a Tuff Shed. More than 15 years later participants from the Shady Lady still talk about what a standout event it was, so we knew we had to bring it back in a new and improved format.

EVENT DETAILS

30 years in the making, the Orange County Polo Club is a venue unlike any other, offering both stunning event spaces and a variety of polo experiences for spectators and players alike. Although the ranch is located only thirty minutes from Newport Beach, you’ll immediately find yourself transported to the countryside as you drive through the rolling hills and winding roads of Silverado Canyon.

We partner with local companies and charities to provide a unique and thrilling polo experience each year. Polo players and the spectators who love to watch them play, are an exclusive audience, not often reached through typical advertising. This sponsorship opportunity provides significant access to this loyal and sophisticated group.

This year we will be supporting Polo Pony Rescue, a 501c3 nonprofit equine rescue. Polo Pony Rescue is currently home to 33 horses, with an average age of 22 – the equivalent of about 65 for a human. Most of those are permanent sanctuary horses that will not be adopted out. PPR adopts out horses whenever possible, if the horse can still do an easier job than polo, or was retired because they didn’t enjoy polo. Adopted horses have hit the show ring in jumping, dressage, and western events. Others are being trail ridden or participating in therapeutic riding programs.

PPR provides a safe and stable final home for horses unable to have another career. Elderly horses hang out with their horsey friends in pasture all day, able to enjoy hay whenever they feel like it, and coming in at night to eat one meal in private stalls where they can receive any special supplements and medications the veterinarian has prescribed. Their oldest horse is Orca, who the vet estimates is around 37 years old, and she still feels good enough to gallop and show off the moves that made her a star in the pro polo world! We look forward to supporting this great cause through the third annual Silverado Cup.
